GLASSBORO — On Monday, March 23 at Rowan University, Camden County hosted an Influencer Summit promoting advocacy for mental health.

Keynote speaker Ashly Estevez says change comes in different ways and that kids can make changes to several things in non traditional ways.

“Oftentimes we get caught up in helping people and oftentimes we’re told to do that within certain roles,” said Estevez. “I really want to plant the seed that you can be a change maker in traditional roles but also you can be the first to do something we haven’t imagined yet.”

Nate’s Story is a non-profit that aims to break the stigma surrounding grief, trauma, and mental health issues through guidance, education, and perseverance. The youth wrote down their negative self-talk and combated it with positive self-talk in small groups, normalizing talking about things that could trigger or bother you.

The Johnston Twins were the guest speakers of the event focusing on reminding the kids to stay focused on the right things and not get so easily distracted, “Steward social media well and tap more into real life,” said the Johnstons.
