Atlantic City Rail Line to Resume Service on May 12th

NJ TRANSIT officials have announced that the Atlantic City Rail Line (ACRL) will resume service nearly two weeks ahead of the agency’s target date of May 24th.

On Wednesday, April 17th, it was announced that the ACRL would resume rail service on Sunday, May 12th.

“Our economy relies upon our residents getting where they need to go reliably and safely, and Governor Christie’s nearly decade-long mismanagement of NJ TRANSIT undermined the capacity of NJ TRANSIT to fulfill that responsibility,” Governor Phil Murphy said. “That is why I’m so pleased to announce the early restoration of the NJ TRANSIT Atlantic City Rail Line and the Princeton Branch Dinky Line, which will allow our commuters to get to work, school, and back again, free of disruption. I applaud NJ TRANSIT’s leadership for their efforts to improve safety and restore service. Our residents and commuters deserve nothing less.”

The ACRL will also see an improved schedule to serve customer demand. Five trains will arrive in Philadelphia prior to noon, up from three, and wait times between trains will be reduced to a maximum of two hours through the service day. Adjustments have been made to the weekend schedule.

NJ Transit officials said they needed to shut down the ACRL in early September of 2018 in order to install Positive Train Control (PTC) along the track. That work was finished in December of last year.
