A free community training session on the use of NARCAN is being offered to Salem County residents in April.
The free training session will be held at the Sharptown United Methodist Church (24 Church St, Pilesgrove) on Monday, April 8th from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
Topics that will be covered include overdose prevention strategies, signs and symptoms of overdose, how to administer Naloxone, rescue breathing, overdose prevention legal rights, and general support information.
At the end of the session, a free NARCAN kit will be given at the end of the training to those who attended. The kits were donated by Sharptown Methodist to honor the life and memory of David Gipson Smith.
Training will be provided by Urban Treatment Centers.
NARCAN is a nasal spray form of naloxone that counteracts the effects of an opioid overdose.
The session is being offered by the Salem County Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Drug and Alcohol Services, in partnership with Sharptown United Methodist Church.
To register, contact Maggie Vaughan, who directs the County’s Office of Drug and Alcohol Services at 856-935-7510 extension 8460, or email her at Maggie.vaughan@salemcountynj.gov.
