CAMDEN, NJ – Camden’s Charter School Network (CCSN) has been awarded an American Water Charitable Foundation 2026 Water and Environment grant, focusing on environmental education and conservation of Tippin’s Pond in Pennsauken, NJ.

Rebecca Phelan, Executive Director, Camden’s Charter School Network, said that CCSN is deeply grateful to the American Water Charitable Foundation for supporting their Tippin’s Pond EcoLab: Floating Wetlands & Water Monitoring project.

“This grant empowers the students of Camden’s Promise Charter School to engage in hands-on scientific research such as monitoring water quality and applying innovative solutions like floating wetlands and underwater ROV technology to drive real environmental impact,” Phelan said. “Through this work, our students are not only strengthening Tippin’s Pond, but also developing the skills and knowledge to become the next generation of environmental leaders.”

According to CCSN’s website, their “goal is to give all children in Camden an equal opportunity to achieve their greatest potential, to raise awareness for education policy, to expand resources from preschool to post-secondary experience, to build leadership, and support program capacity for the City of Camden and beyond by providing scholarship opportunities to graduating seniors pursuing post-secondary plans from college to career certifications while also creating and connecting partnerships that can be brought into the schools to help support student and community programs.”

The Water and Environment grant is part of the American Water Charitable Foundation’s Keep Communities Flowing Grant Program. The Foundation is a philanthropic non-profit organization established by American Water, the largest regulated water and wastewater utility company in the U.S., supporting high-impact projects and initiatives that further American Water’s commitment to the communities it serves.

“The American Water Charitable Foundation is proud to invest in organizations and programs that focus on clean water, conservation, environmental education, climate variability and water-based recreation,” Carrie Williams, President, American Water Charitable Foundation, said. “We take pride in furthering American Water’s ongoing commitment to being a good neighbor and trusted partner in the community.”
