GLASSBORO, NJ — The South Jersey based entertainment group Drag Queen Entertainment held their monthly “Drag Me To Landmark” show at the Glassboro hotspot Landmark Americana on Saturday, March 21, celebrating famous Broadway shows with performances by some of the tri-state area’s top drag queens.

The group hosted their “Babes of Broadway” drag show in Glassboro, featuring five drag queens lip-syncing to iconic Broadway musicals including Rent, Chicago, and Hairspray.
The show was hosted by Astala Vista , aka Joe Cassise offstage, who is also the co-owner and creative director of Drag Queen Entertainment. She started the show with a song from Avenue Q, followed by Vinchelle putting on a performance from the musical Dreamgirls.
The event was 21+ and featured signature cocktails on theme with the Broadway drag show such as “Opening Night”, “The Final Bow”, and “Shoulda Won A Tony.” The mix of an excited crowd and fun drinks led to a lively night celebrating all things Broadway.
The audience was excited to see these queens perform songs from these famous shows, and tipped them well to show their appreciation. A few lucky audience members even got to go up on stage and lip-sync to popular songs, and the best act (voted by the audience’s tips) won a free ticket to a future “Drag Me To Landmark” event and a $25 gift card.
Other highlights of the night included Mimi Sashimi performing a song from the groundbreaking musical, Rent, Ophelia Bawdy singing “Let It Go” from Frozen: The Musical, and Lexi Pro lip syncing to songs from Mean Girls and Chicago. The night ended with all five of the queens taking a bow on stage to uproarious applause, followed by a photo op with them.

The events at Landmark are held the third Friday and Saturday of each month, frequented by Rowan students, Glassboro residents, and other fans of the local drag scene.
The co-owner and event and talent director of Drag Queen Entertainment is Jimmy Boone, who works behind the scenes to make these shows happen. Boone originally started Drag Queen Entertainment as a way to find gigs for Cassise, his then boyfriend, as he started his drag career in 2014.
Drag Queen Entertainment has been holding shows at Landmark nearly since the group’s inception, and has been a consistent supporter of their work since the group’s first show there in April 2016. Landmark and Drag Queen Entertainment will soon be celebrating their 10th anniversary of “Drag Me To Landmark.” Boone and Cassise even got engaged at a “Drag Me To Landmark” show, making Landmark an integral piece of their personal and professional history.
“This show is kind of like our little baby. There’s been a lot of little milestones in our life here. I always say that our company was built here at this venue,” said Boone.
Though Boone and Cassise started their career in Philadelphia, they found it difficult to find gigs, and instead decided to start their own group doing shows in South Jersey. During these first performances, they quickly realized they had discovered an untapped market for drag shows. This idea built the foundation that would eventually become Drag Queen Entertainment.
“There weren’t a lot of new opportunities and places. There was nothing really in South Jersey ten years ago, so we had the idea to bring things here,” Boone said. “We did our first show at Ollie Gator’s Pub in Berlin, we sold out with about 80 people and had to turn away 30 or 40 people at the door who wanted to come see us. At that point we kind of knew we were on to something.”
The group hosts monthly shows at Landmark Americana in Glassboro, as well as their “Brunch is a Drag” drag brunch most weekends. In addition, queens from the group can be hired for parties and corporate events, guaranteed to get the party started with queens from their roster performing drag in many forms, whether that be MCing, dancing, live singing, or lip syncing. They also put on shows at universities in the tri-state area, showing off these talented queens everywhere they can and showing a new audience what drag is all about.
Drag Queen Entertainment celebrated 10 years of “Drag Me To Landmark” with their anniversary show on April 17, commemorating New Jersey’s longest running monthly drag show. The next day they hosted a Super Mario themed show at Landmark, soon after the release of the new Super Mario Galaxy Movie on April 1.
