GLASSBORO — Rowan University Athletics has officially announced the installation of its six new LED scoreboards on Wednesday, Feb. 23.
The scoreboards will be installed at five venues, such as Coach Richard Wacker Stadium, Esbjornson Stadium (which will have two), the baseball field, the softball field, and the soccer and lacrosse Complex.
Rowan is partnering with Digital Scoreboards of Columbia, Illinois, for the project, which is expected to be completed in the 2026-27 season for all sports.
“We’re willing to invest,” said the director of athletics, Shawn Tucker. “We’re willing to raise our profile, and we want to do this in a way that’s collaborative with the students.”
The new scoreboards will replace the existing displays and include upgraded visual and audio capabilities.
In addition to just showing the score, the boards will be able to show game data and statistics, hype videos, player and team highlights, and in-game replays.
“If you want to attract the best athletes across the country, here in South Jersey, you have 24, sometimes 28 hours to show them that this is the place to be,” said Tucker. “We have to do a great job at being that front porch at Rowan University.”
The scoreboards are expected to create additional opportunities for corporate sponsorships and support ongoing branding efforts for Rowan Athletics.
“To be able to have their name up there, that may not have the dollar amount to go and have the billboard on (Route) 55,” said Tucker. “They can certainly take advantage of Rowan University.”
Rowan has 11 NCAA team national championships, along with 75 individual national championships.
“You want to be able to tell that story in a very flashy and a very dynamic way, as well as engage South Jersey,” said Tucker.
Coaches say the upgraded displays could also play a role in recruiting and the overall game-day atmosphere.
“The boards will allow us to create a first-class visit experience, highlight our players and alumni, enhance our game-day atmosphere, and give recruits a vision of what it feels like to compete for the Profs,” said Kate Pearson, the head coach of Rowan women’s basketball.
