GLASSBORO, N.J. — Dreamscape Learn Center, a revolutionary virtual reality-enhanced educational experience that promises to transform education, is now a part of Rowan University.

Dr. George Lecakes, director of immersive technology and learning, wants to reassure those skeptical of virtual reality and artificial intelligence that this new addition is a very good thing.

“No one here wants to replace faculty or labs,” said Lecakes. “We want to transport students to places they’ve never been or can’t ever be.”

Biology in the alien zoo is a virtual reality learning experience where students explore an intergalactic zoo to learn more about biology and Dr. Pamela Watson, the course coordinator, designed the course to be more inquiry focused.

“We have a big shift in the pedagogy of the course away from what we already know and towards teaching the student to ask more questions,” said Watson. “We’re using it as a tool to prompt the students to wonder.”

In the Campbell Library there’s two classrooms equipped with virtual reality headsets, joysticks, and with enough space to accommodate 30 students and one instructor. The students will experience something students at Rowan have never experienced before.
