Camden County 4-H Member Captures Top Award at State 4-H Public Speaking Contest

CHERRY HILL, N.J. – Abigail Malitsky of Voorhees was one of 17 New Jersey 4-H members who received an Outstanding Presentation Award at the New Jersey State 4-H Public Presentations Contest held recently at the Cook/Douglass Campus of Rutgers University in New Brunswick.

Over 125 4-H members from throughout the state took part in this event, which offers qualified members an advanced Public Speaking experience. To qualify for the event, 4-H members must be in grades 8 through 13 (one year out of high school) and have received an excellent rating at their County 4-H Public Speaking Contest. Judging is done by educators, 4-H volunteers, faculty, and staff.

Camden County 4-H members Sara Weist of Stratford and Savannah Brannan of Clementon also competed at the state event.

“The 4-H program is so important because it gives our young people a critical avenue for developing these and other skills. No matter what you’re going to do in life or in your career, strong public speaking skills can propel you further and further,” Freeholder Jeffery Nash said in a press release. “We’re incredibly proud of these young Camden County 4-H members for their drive, passion, and leadership.”

The 4-H Youth Development Program is part of Rutgers New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station – Cooperative Extension, 4-H educational programs are offered to all youth, grades K-13, on an age-appropriate basis, without regard to race, religion, color, national origin, ancestry, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, disability, atypical hereditary cellular or blood trait, marital status, domestic partnership status, military service, veteran status, and any other category protected by law.
