MAYS LANDING, N.J. – The Wake Up Project’s second annual Wakeboard Competition and Food Truck Festival will be held at Lake Lenape Park East in Mays Landing on Saturday, July 27th beginning at 9:30 a.m.

The event combines water sports, family fun, and great food to raise awareness for mental health and suicide prevention. The Wake Up Project was founded to honor the memory of local resident Cole Rocap who tragically took his own life in 2016 at the age of 14.

The mission of The Wake Up Project, according to the organization’s website, is to create “an open environment for people to speak up about suicide and mental illness while feeling safe about it.”

The wakeboard competition will include divisions for all levels of experience, from beginner to expert. There will be a number of food truck vendors on site including Kona Ice, Cha-Yen, Matty G Dogz, Texas Heat BBQ, Bare Knuckle Cafe, Mermaid Mutineer, Grubbin’ Gringo’s, Philly Fry, Big Squeeze Lemonade, and Cincotti’s Homemade.

Also, mental health professionals will be available to provide education and information.

“Our mission is to create an atmosphere where people can feel safe to talk about suicide and mental illness,” Vince Giardino of the Wake Up Project said in a statement. “Lake Lenape has a rich history of water activities. We hope this event helps to continue those traditions while raising money for a great cause.”

“The world is full of darkness,” The Wake Up Project’s website states, “but together we can find the light.”

Lake Lenape Park East is located at 753 Park Road in Mays Landing.
