WEST DEPTFORD, NJ – A 160-acre wildfire took place in West Deptford Township, on Saturday April 11.
The wildfire broke out near Sunoco Eagle Point refinery property. The Forest Fire Service responded by sending over engines and ground crews to the area.
Officials say the burning threatened 100 structures and it presented voluntary evacuations. There were no injuries or mandatory evacuations that were reported.
The fire along with clouds of smoke could be seen by residents in surrounding counties.
During the time of the fire, officials warned residents to keep away from the area. Firefighters responded to the blaze until it became 100 percent contained by 6 p.m., according to New Jersey Forest Fire Service.
The full containment of the fire left zero structures threatened.
The fire was between the areas Red Bank Ave and Hessian Ave, but officials say the roads have re-opened since the fire took place.
Officials will remain on the site for “the next several hours” to take safety precautions following the fire.
For those in nearby towns, smoke presence is anticipated.
For public safety, officials are awaiting rainfall to take place to remove lingering smoke from the area.
