PHILADELPHIA, PA – Crossing into South Jersey’s sister city of Philadelphia was exciting, especially pulling into Yay Clay on Amber Street.
The building outside looks cold and dark with a sign saying “Yay Clay,” but once you take the elevator up, you walk into a world of color. When you enter the Green Room you see 13 empty seats and empty work spaces waiting to be filled with participants ready to make pottery on their date night that was $80 a person. Two instructors guide you through proper hand placement on the clay, applying the right amount of pressure on the clay, and how to put just enough weight on the petal to keep the wheel spinning as you work.
After you create your piece, you clean your workspace followed by putting the blowtorch on your piece. In the center of the Green Room is a table of patterns, participants get to style their piece with select patterns followed by the glazing that is done by instructors. Once you are done the night, you have a couple weeks to wait before you either pick up your finished piece or you could choose to have it shipped to your home.
Yay Clay in Philadelphia, South Jersey’s sister city, is definitely What’s Good in (and around) South Jersey. For more information go to YAY!Clay Philadelphia – Pottery & Art Studio to book your clay experience.
