SALEM, N.J. – The City of Salem celebrated its 350th anniversary on Saturday, Oct. 4, and spared no expense, bringing out vendors and live music for the day-long festival.
Horses, face painting, magicians, you name it and Salem provided for the people on its special day, they even brought out a swordsman who manipulated fire on the blade of the sword commanding the audience’s attention.
Salem Mayor Jody Veler comments that all attractions were volunteer based reinforcing that the people within Salem care about their city and do what it takes to show their care.
“The best part about the city is the people,” said Mayor Veler. “We get a lot of negativity from the outside, there’s a perception of Salem that really isn’t true.”
Pastor Sonita Johnson of St. Johns Pentecostal Outreach Church joined the 40 plus double dutch club in some double dutching bringing smiles to the spectators. The youth were also roaming the streets but with adult supervision surrounding them making them safe to roam if they pleased.
Salem’s 350 Celebration was definitely What’s Good in South Jersey.
