SALEM, N.J. — Salem County will host a day to remember the lives lost to fatal overdoses as well as to raise awareness to the stigma that surrounds addiction and substance use disorder on Friday, August 30, 2024 from 2:00 P.M. – 5:00 P.M. at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Park in Salem.
According to New Jersey State Police and the NJ Department of Health data, there were 2,564 suspected overdose deaths in New Jersey in 2023 which was down from 3,054 confirmed overdose deaths in 2022.
In Salem County there were 28 suspected drug related deaths in 2023 and eight as of mid-August 2024 according to NJ Department of Health statistics.
Along with educational information and resources from local agencies, the event will include free Narcan kits and training, talk with a recovery coach, a visit to the Remembrance Wall, as well as free treats and water ice.
