MOORESTOWN, N.J. — On Friday, Virtua Health will hold a celebration of administering its 200,000th dose of the COVID-19 vaccine at Burlington County’s vaccine mega site, which is located in the Moorestown Mall.

The celebration is set to kick off at 12:30 p.m. on Friday and run for an hour. One vaccine recipient will be selected as the honorary 200,000th dose recipient, and they’ll get a full celebration from Virtua’s staff including cake and balloons.

Burlington County’s mega site will reach the 200,000-dose milestone just 26 days after reaching 100,000 doses administered. Virtua’s larger health care system reached 100,000 doses administered on March 7, and the vast majority of the South Jersey-based chain’s vaccine output has come from the Burlington County mega site. The Moorestown Mall was selected as one of six COVID-19 vaccine mega sites that the state is operating along with Rowan College of South Jersey’s Gloucester County campus and the Atlantic City Convention Center.

As of Friday morning, New Jersey’s COVID-19 dashboard reported that the state has administered 4,434,780 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine. Of those, 1,672,595 people across the state are fully vaccinated against the pandemic after receiving their second dose of Pfizer or Moderna’s vaccine models or the single-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

The state has consistently put 500,000 shots in arms per week for the last month, but some older residents are still having trouble securing vaccine appointments. In response to this, both the state and a smattering of local governments have made access to vaccines easier for seniors by creating hotlines for exclusive use by older residents or reserving vaccine appointments for them.
