BRIDGETON, N.J. — The CROWN Act is a lesser-known law in the United States, but it’s crucially important for those who feel discriminated against because of their natural hair style.
“CROWN” is actually an acronym that stands for Creating a Respectful and Open World for Natural hair. New Jersey became the third state to officially implement the CROWN Act after California and New York.
Marisa Peal is a cosmetologist and writer who is a strong local advocate for the CROWN Act. On July 14, she spoke with Isaiah Showell to discuss why she feels so passionately about the law and why it’s so important.
