ESTELL MANOR, N.J. — In observance of Veterans Day, the Atlantic County Veterans Museum will extend its normal hours of operation to be open on Monday, November 11, from 10:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M.
The Atlantic County Veterans Museum is located in the historic Daniel Estell House, adjacent to the Atlantic County Park at Estell Manor and the Atlantic County Veterans Cemetery. It is the former home of Rebecca Estell Bourgeois Winston, the first mayor of Estell Manor and the first female mayor in New Jersey.
Built in 1832 and remodeled in the 1920s to Colonial Revival style, the museum includes military artifacts and personal donations from every war and conflict beginning with the Revolutionary War through modern day. Atlantic County purchased the house in 1993 and recently rehabilitated it to provide a museum to serve as a tribute to local veterans and honor their contributions to the nation’s history. The museum opened to the public in 2017.
“The Atlantic County Veterans Museum is intended to serve as a lasting tribute to our veterans and their families,” Atlantic County Executive Dennis Levinson states on the museum’s webpage. “Through the collection of military artifacts and personal memorabilia we will share the contributions of Atlantic County residents to our nation’s history. We welcome those from near and far to take advantage of this historic and educational resource.”
The Atlantic County Veterans Museum Foundation, a 501©3 non-profit, provides fundraising in support of the museum.
In preparation for the Veterans Day holiday, on Wednesday, November 6, at 4:00 P.M., local scout troops in cooperation with Atlantic County Parks staff will honor the memories of our fallen veterans and their spouses who are buried in the Atlantic County Veterans Cemetery with the placement of flags on their gravesites. Scouts who perform this service on two of three occasions throughout the year (Memorial Day, July Fourth and Veterans Day) are eligible to receive the Atlantic County Patriotism Patch in recognition of their efforts.
The Atlantic County Veterans Museum, is located at 189 Route 50 South, Estell Manor. Its normal hours of operation are Thursday through Saturday, 10:00 A.M.to 4:00 P.M.
