Coast Guard Medevacs Man 118 Miles from Atlantic City

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. — On the evening of Thursday, Oct. 17 members of the United States Coast Guard medevaced a man off a cruise ship that was 118 miles southeast of Atlantic City.

Watchstanders from District Five received notification through satellite phone at around 6:20 p.m. that a man on the cruise ship Adventure of the Sea had symptoms of a stroke and needed medical assistance. The Watchstanders consulted the duty flight surgeon who recommended a medevac.

An Air Station Atlantic City MH-65 Dolphin helicopter aircrew was launched and medevaced the man while an Air Station Elizabeth City HC-130J Hercules aircrew provided support.

The man was transported to awaiting emergency medical services personnel at Air Station Atlantic City.
