
NEW JERSEY – New Jersey is on its way to a $15 minimum wage.
Starting Monday, July 1st, the state minimum wage will increase from $8.85 to $10 per hour, due to a measure Governor Phil Murphy signed earlier this year.
The wages for tipped workers who make cash wages increased from $2.13 per hour to $2.63. Seasonal and small business employees (a business is considered “small” if it has six or fewer employees) will increase to $10.30 per hour on January 1st, 2020. Agricultural workers will see their wages rise to $10.30 per hour on January 1st, 2020 as well.
The new minimum wage will increase by $1 every year until 2024 when the new rate will hit $15 per hour.
The federal minimum wage is currently $7.25 per hour.
New Jersey is the fourth state, along with the District of Columbia, to enact a phased-in $15 minimum wage.
