FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP, N.J. – Freeholder Jim Jefferson and Freeholder Jim Lavender attended the dedication of the Buffalo Soldiers from the 22nd Regiment United States Colored Troop cemetery located in Franklin Township on Saturday, June 1, 2019.
“We are grateful to Lisa and Faith Money for their unwavering conviction to make sure that this cemetery was not forgotten. Their care and concern for history and those buried at this cemetery have made it possible for everyone to come and visit it,” Freeholder Jim Jefferson said in a press release.
Freeholder Dan Christy also commended the work of the Moneys. “It is wonderful how the Moneys got in touch with the Veterans Advisory Council who then got GCIT SkillsUSA students involved to help clear the grounds. This project had a snowball effect and it brought the community together so that the brave troops laid to rest here are properly remembered,” he said.
Christy, Liaison to the Office of Veterans Affairs, also said that the Gloucester County Veterans Advisory Council donated the sign at the entrance of the cemetery.
The Buffalo Soldiers, United States Colored Troops, 22nd Regiment Cemetery is located in Franklinville at the intersection of Tuckahoe Road and Sheridan Ave.
