If you commute over the Delaware Memorial Bridge be ready to pay more to cross it.
On Wednesday, May 1st, at midnight the toll rates for all vehicles will increase in varying amounts. At around 11:50 p.m. on Tuesday, April 30th, southbound traffic into Delaware may see a minor delay so Delaware River and Bay Authority (DRBA) personnel can transition to the new rates and post appropriate signage in the toll plaza.
The new toll rate is expected to generate $32 million in extra revenue to fund the Capital Improvement Program. The DRBA Commission approved the new toll rates at a bi-state agency’s monthly meeting on February 20th.
The following are some of the major capital projects planned at Delaware Memorial Bridge and Cape May – Lewes Ferry during the next several years: Bridge Paint Removal and Recoating ($48.2); Suspension Rope Replacement ($24.5 million); Bridge Steelwork Repairs ($40.5 million); Pin and Link Rehabilitation on Both Structures of DMB ($19.7 million); Ship Collision Protection System ($45.2 million); Bridge Deck Repair ($21.5 million); Transfer Bridge Repairs at the Cape May – Lewes Ferry ($4.3 million); and Ferry Repowering Program ($9.5 million).
