Salem County Office on Aging and Disabilities Offering Shuttle to Christiana Plaza to Combat Loneliness and Depression in Seniors

Christiana, Deleware

The Salem County Office on Aging and Disabilities is offering a new shuttle to Christiana Plaza to help fight loneliness and depression in seniors.

SCOOT Transportation is running the shuttle every Tuesday beginning on Tuesday, May 14th. The shuttle will arrive at the Cinemark movie theatre at 9 a.m. in time for the 9:30 a.m. discount show.

The shuttle will also make drops at the Christiana Mall, Cabelas, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Michaels Craft Shop, Marshalls and Main Even – where you can bowl and play mini golf. Final pick up to return to Salem County is at 12:30 p.m.

“This new shuttle is an opportunity for our seniors and disabled to get out, enjoy friendships, experience something new, and not have to worry about driving across the bridge,” Freeholder Mickey Ostrum, who chairs the Health and Human Services Committee said. “The mix of plaza stops offers something for everyone — movies, mall walking, exploring sporting goods stores, mini-golf, bowling, shopping, and new restaurants.”

Freeholder Director Ben Laury said the shuttle is part of the Department of Health and Human Service’s mission to address loneliness and depression, common among seniors. “This is a chance to socialize,” he said.

The fee for the round trip is $6.

If you are 60 years or older, or a person of any age with a disability or you live in a designated rural area, you are eligible to ride. Call the Salem County Office on Aging and Disabilities at 856-935-8622 for more information.
