South Jersey Academy Offers Foster Youth Opportunity for Bright Futures at Rowan

GLASSBORO, N.J. – Foster youth from across South Jersey are spending the next month having fun as they prepare for their futures.

The South Jersey First Star Academy kicked off this week as 59 high school foster youth moved on to the Rowan University campus and celebrated with their families at a holiday picnic.

South Jersey First Star is a four-year program, run by Hopeloft and designed to increase college attainment rates for foster youth.

The program is funded by the Pascale Sykes Foundation and other donors.

Thirty of the academy’s 59 attendees are also enrolled in the Give Back Scholarship program and will get the chance to attend college for free.

This is the fourth year of the First Star Summer Academy program.
