13th Annual Disability Awareness Day in Salem County Oct. 19

The 13th annual Disability Awareness Day will be held at the Riverview Inn in Salem, N.J., on October 19.

Hosted by Salem County’s Office on Aging and Disabilities, the event will begin at 10 a.m., and is free to the public.

Attendees will be able to interact with various vendors and providers before being treated to a luncheon.

The day’s festivities will also include a special presentation from guest speaker Ernest Peterson, Sr., who will be demonstrating self-defense techniques for disabled and senior citizens.

“This is a very popular event, and provides an opportunity to learn about services and products that are available to assist those with disabilities,” said Bob Vanderslice, freeholder director and Health and Human Services Committee chair.

“I think attendees will especially enjoy this year’s demonstration on self-defense.”

Organizers for the event are also looking for nominees for the Crusaders Award, which “honors individuals and organizations for their work in the disabled community,” according to the official press release. Nominations can be submitted to the Office on Aging and Disabilities.

Reservations are required before October 10.

Courtesy transportation for seniors and disabled citizens will be provided upon arrival.
