Be My Galentine!

There’s pink and red treats on the living room table. Each chair has a nice plate and wine glass across from it.

Friends are walking in the designated home with pajamas covered in pink or red for the occasion. A comfort movie is being played while each of you are under the covers.

For others, it’s a girl night out. Everyone is wearing their fancy clothes and enjoying each other’s company over delicious food.

The day can even consist of a brunch, spa day, or even a fun activity.

A few may even write a card to show their appreciation, bring a gift, or even a sweet treat for the celebration.

Valentine’s Day is not just for couples. For some it’s a time shared surrounded by the friends you love, in the name of love.

For many women as Valentine’s day approaches they recognize “Galentine’s day.” An intentional day for women to celebrate their friendship for one another.

The day allows friends to feel supportive and loved despite being in a relationship or not.

Where did “Galentine’s Day” come from?

This term is commonly associated with the sitcom “Parks and Recreation,” in their season 2 episode 13, called “Galentine’s Day.”

In the episode, the main character Leslie Knope is seen taking her friends out to brunch with intentional gifts like crocheted flower pens and a note. What began as a comedic joke from the show, sparked a non-official holiday many have chosen to take part in.

Since the launch of this episode in 2010, individuals have decided to spend a dedicated day in February with their girlfriends.

How to make your own “Galentine’s Day”

Creating a Galentine’s day with your friends can be simple. It requires finding an activity each of you enjoy. Whether this is shopping, a movie night, going to brunch, or having dinner, the goal is to create an intentional day that cherishes friendship.

If this day is spent in someone’s home, help set up fun pink and red decor throughout the dining room table to prepare for a dinner or eating sweet treats.

Get a card or a gift you know they’ll love to show your appreciation for your friendship.

The tone of the day is to keep it light-hearted and fun, celebrating the prominent women you have in your life.
