BRIDGETON, N.J. — Thanksgiving morning at the Pocket Park in downtown Bridgeton was nothing short of magical as families in need gathered for the “Community Giving” event. Organized by a powerhouse of local businesses, community leaders, and volunteers, this inspiring event brought warmth, hope, and a delicious Thanksgiving experience to those who needed it most.
The event featured an array of comforting dishes that felt like a hug in every bite—arroz con leche (warm cinnamon rice milk), hot chocolate, soup, Mexican bread, pumpkin pie, and more. Volunteers also handed out care packages filled with essential items, including gloves, hats, rain ponchos, toothpaste, and personal hygiene supplies, all paired with handwritten messages of encouragement like “God Bless You” and “Jesus Te Ama.”
“This event isn’t just about food,” said Chayito Hernandez, owner of Lashes by Chayito. “It’s about letting people know they are seen, valued, and loved. On Thanksgiving, no one in our community should feel alone.”
The magic of the event was made possible through the collaborative efforts of local businesses, including Lavish Nails & Beauty Studio, Lashes by Chayito, and RMA Properties, alongside key organizations like Hopeloft and the City of Bridgeton’s Urban Enterprise Zone (UEZ) program. Together, they created a space of generosity and unity, proving the power of collaboration.
“We saw a need and knew we had to do something,” said Leslie Guiza, owner of Lavish Nails. “When businesses, volunteers, and community leaders come together, the impact is unstoppable. The smiles and gratitude we saw today made it all worth it.”
The event not only addressed immediate needs but also reinforced the bonds that make Bridgeton a resilient and compassionate community. Rain couldn’t dampen the spirit of giving as families shared in the holiday cheer, and volunteers worked tirelessly to ensure every detail was perfect.
“This is what true community partnership looks like,” said Stephanie Gonzalez, UEZ Coordinator for the City of Bridgeton. “When businesses and organizations unite, we create something greater than the sum of our parts. Today, we showed what Bridgeton is capable of.”
For many attendees, the event was about more than a meal—it was a reminder that they belong to a community that cares deeply about their well-being.
“It’s about lifting people up and letting them know they are not alone,” said Rosalinda Garcia, owner of RMA Properties. “The joy, the connections, and the sense of togetherness here today were incredible. This is why we do what we do.”
Organizers are already planning to take next year’s event to new heights, hoping to expand the outreach and touch even more lives.
The Thanksgiving Community Giving event is a movement of kindness, a celebration of community, and a testament to the heart and soul of Bridgeton.
