GLASSBORO, N.J. — Rowan University and CGI Technologies and Solutions, Inc., headquartered in Montréal, have entered into an academic affiliation agreement that will assist in professional development for staff and students, establish research opportunities, and create meaningful internships for students, according to the university.
The agreement is part of Choose New Jersey’s Governor-led mission to Canada. CGI is among the largest IT and business consulting firms in the world, with 400 locations, including offices in New Brunswick, New Jersey.
Choose New Jersey is a non-profit business attraction organization that works globally using “marketing expertise, concierge business development services, deep knowledge of the state, and convening power, in collaboration with state government, to empower businesses, entrepreneurs, leaders, and innovators to make New Jersey their home,” according to a press release from the university.
“We have a culture at Rowan University of working directly with firms to meet their needs while expanding opportunities for researchers and our students,” Rowan University President Ali Houshmand said in a press release from the university. “This partnership will lead to the development of research alongside CGI related to information technology and artificial intelligence while preparing students to become industry leaders, whether within CGI or for other leading firms.”
CGI and Rowan plan to develop paid internships across disciplines, including engineering, computer science, math, and business. The agreement also includes developing opportunities for guest lecturing, joint research, and other collaboration by staff and faculty. The affiliation could potentially lead to the development of certificate programs to spur workforce development in the region.
“We are excited to partner with Rowan University in this forward-thinking initiative that aligns perfectly with CGI’s commitment to fostering innovation and developing a highly skilled workforce,” Mike Reagan, Senior Vice President of Consulting Services at CGI, stated. “By collaborating on curriculum development, research, and hands-on learning opportunities, we are not only investing in the future of CGI but also helping to shape the next generation of leaders in technology and business. This partnership reflects our belief in the transformative power of education and our dedication to making a positive impact in the communities where we operate.”
