VINELAND, N.J. – The Rowan College of South Jersey-Cumberland Wind Symphony along with the Western Atlantic Wind Symphony will perform songs at this year’s Side-By-Side Concert on Wednesday, February 15, at 7:30 p.m., in the Cumberland campus Guaracini Center.
Each ensemble will perform its own repertoire selections followed by joint performances of American Wind Symphony repertoire, along with several custom arrangements by Jim Commander, director, Western Atlantic Wind Symphony.
Several of the sample selections the two wind symphonies will harmonize on are: “A Big Band Showcase,” “Chanteys,” and “Highlights from Les Misérable.”
This collaboration between the RCSJ-Cumberland Wind Symphony and the Western Atlantic Wind Symphony is music to the ears of Joseph Akinskas, adjunct professor, music education, and campus band director.
“The opportunity for musicians to collaborate in a performance is an amazingly enriching experience both musically and socially,” said Akinskas in a press release from the college. “The RCSJ-Cumberland campus musicians truly appreciate the time and effort of the Western Atlantic Wind Symphony musicians and their director. We look forward to the concert.”
The Side-By-Side Concert is free to the public. For more information about RCSJ-Cumberland campus band performances, please contact Joseph Akinskas at akinskas@rowan.edu.
