SOUTH JERSEY — The New Jersey Partnership for Student Success (NJPSS), an initiative designed to use volunteers and community organizations to help students, educators, and schools to help accelerate student learning in the post-pandemic world, the Governor Murphy Administration has announced.

Based on and with the support from the National Partnership for Student Success, the NJPSS will support school districts with a goal of recruiting, training, and engaging an additional 5,000 adults who can serve as tutors, mentors, student success coaches, wraparound service coordinators, and postsecondary transition coaches. They will work in coordination with educators, parents, and other stakeholders to accelerate student learning, address youth mental health, support preschool programs, empower educators, and strengthen community partnerships.

The initiative is a response to “the enormous toll the COVID-19 pandemic has taken on educators and students, both academically and mentally, is coming into clearer focus,” the DOE website states. “Educators were asked to do the impossible and students were asked to learn in circumstances previously unimaginable. Students need support from around their communities in order to achieve critical post-pandemic academic recovery and accelerated learning goals.”

Over the course of the next several months the New Jersey Department of Education will continue to expand the NJPSS initiative. The NJPSS website will ultimately serve as a central point of reference for district administrators, educators, and parents to access resources, professional development, and grant opportunities to bolster our educational system and foster academic recovery and learning acceleration.

To learn more about NJPSS and apply to serve as a mentor, tutor, or wraparound service coordinator to offer additional support for students and educators, please complete the NJPSS request form.
