CAMDEN, N.J. — The Trenton Circus Squad are returning for their fifth residency at Cooper’s Poynt Waterfront Park in Camden.
Hosted by the Camden County Board of Commissioners along with Camden City, Camden Community Partnership, and Connect the Lots, the squad will be performing from June 30 to July 9 and will feature 11 public performances by its Youth Squad members. This year’s Youth Squad is comprised of 10 members from across New Jersey, led by program manager and Philadelphia local Karen Ladd.
“We’re thrilled to welcome this wonderful source of family friendly entertainment back to Camden City,” Commissioner Al Dyer said in a press release from the county. “With its incredibly talented and energetic group of youth performers, the Trenton Circus Squad will blow you away. Make sure you don’t miss this opportunity to get out of the house and enjoy something new while supporting a New Jersey-based organization.”
This year’s tour features a new big top tent, created by Canobbio Textile, an Italian-based company known for manufacturing tents for Cirque du Soleil. The new tents include a 28-meter canopy with a bleacher section that can seat up to 350 spectators for each show.
The squad will host eight free performances from June 30 to July 4, plus three paid shows on July 8 and 9. Tickets are available for $15 per person and attendees are recommended to purchase tickets or register in advance online. Proceeds from the paid shows go towards the squad’s ongoing programming, equipment rentals, room and board, stipends for Youth Squad members and salaries for coaches and tent crews.
In addition to the live performances, the squad will coordinate with the Boys and Girls Club of America, The Neighborhood Center, and Urban Promise to invite local children to free workshops. The Youth Squad and coaches work with 100 kids in each workshop, teaching them a variety of circus acts.
“Not only is this circus residency a great form of entertainment for residents and visitors, but local kids will be able to try a new activity they may not have had access to before,” Dyer said.
