CAMDEN, N.J. — The Animal Welfare Association (AWA) will be bringing its Vets on Wheels mobile clinic to Camden City’s Von Nieda Park on Wednesday, Nov. 20, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
The clinic will offer pet owners vaccinations, examinations, and help with minor medical conditions as well as access to low cost spay/neuter surgeries on-site.
The Vets on Wheels program, supported by the Freeholder Board, works in underserved communities to deliver a variety of pet care outreach services to residents. These events are open to all — neighborhood residency is not a requirement to visit the Vets on Wheels clinic.
“By bringing these services directly into the community, we can help pet owners to care for their animals while also minimizing the spread of canine and feline disease and illness,” Freeholder Jonathan Young said . “Services at the mobile clinic are provided on-site at an affordable cost. Even relatively minor procedures can go a long way to keeping your pet healthy and happy.”
The Vets On Wheels program is built upon the success of AWA’s two-year Pets for Life program in the North Camden neighborhood, whose goal it was to build humane communities by helping animals and the people who love them. A 2015 PetSmart Charities grant funded that work.
Pet owners in areas served by the Vets on Wheels program traditionally lack regular access to veterinary services and may struggle to secure transportation to far-away clinics. The mobile clinic brings these services into the neighborhood at a convenient location and an affordable price.
By going out into the community, AWA is able to have a direct impact in areas where pet owners are unable to come to us for needed pet care services.
