DEPTFORD, N.J. — County officials recognized three Deptford High School seniors for achievements in academics as well as athletics on Monday, September 30.
Freeholder Jim Jefferson presented Megan Brown and Chinmayee Narayan with certificates of achievement as Commended Students in the 2020 National Merit Scholarship Program. Jefferson also recognized Angelina Schilling who was named NFL Way to Play national winner.
Freeholder Director Robert M. Damminger said having two students recognized for such an academic achievement within the county is commendable.
“Roughly 34,000 Commended Students in the 2020 National Merit Scholarship Program are being recognized for their success throughout the nation,” Damminger said. “Students receiving this award are recognized as having placed among the top 50,000 scorers of more than 1.5 million students who took the 2018 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. Having two students within our county receiving this award is a great honor.”
“The title of NFL Way to Play winner is a high honor,” Freeholder Jim Jefferson said. “We are proud of Angelina Schilling, a kicker for the Deptford High School football team, for winning the nationwide National Football League honor.”
As part of Schilling’s recognition, the Deptford football program will receive a $15,000 grant for equipment from USA Football and Schilling will also be recognized on the NFL Network
