CLAYTON, N.J. – The physician response unit known as MD1 has joined forces with Gloucester County Emergency Medical Services (GCEMS), and they will be hosting an open house on Thursday September 5 at 7:00 P.M. in the auditorium of the Gloucester County Government Services Building (Bldg. A).1200 North Delsea Drive, Clayton.
MD1 is a 24/7 Physician Response Unit with full surgical and medical capabilities. According to MD1’s website, it is a “a stand-alone organization that is not affiliated with any hospital or other healthcare organization, and its services will be provided without qualification to the general public,” according to its website.
“MD1 physicians have recently started responding to GCEMS calls, alongside GCEMS crews, each Tuesday so we want residents to be aware of who they are,” Freehold Director Robert M. Damminger said in a statement. “This program benefits our GCEMS, the physicians, and the patients they care for.”
The mission of MD1 is to expand physician response programs throughout the country to help improve life-saving treatment outside the hospital, and, as much is possible, free of charge to patients. MD1 is a 501c3 organization — a nonprofit organization that accepts charitable contributions — made up of physicians who respond to emergencies alongside EMS personnel.
Freeholder Dan Christy, Liaison to GCEMS, said Gloucester County leads the way in working with MD1.
“[We are] the first public sector EMS provider in the state to partner with MD1,” Christy said. “This partnership brings physician level assessments and interventions directly to the patient, which can be important when patient is experiencing a time critical medical or traumatic emergency.”
MD1 is creating a statewide physician-response model in New Jersey but plans to duplicate that model throughout the country.
Anyone interested in seeing the equipment the MD1 physicians bring to patients and would like to know more about cutting edge cardiac arrest resuscitation or are curious about the program, can find out at the open house on September 5. MD1 physicians will be on-site to discuss their capabilities and discuss this unique program.
The Gloucester County Government Services Building (Bldg. A) is located at 1200 North Delsea Drive, Clayton.
