WOODBINE, N.J. — Woodbine Mayor William Pikolycky has announced that the United States Department of Agriculture—Rural Development has awarded the Borough additional funding to make repairs and improvements to its existing water treatment plant and distribution system.
The extra $1,881,530 in loans and grants will bring the project total to nearly $4 million. Previously, The USDA Rural Development awarded the Borough with nearly $2 million to make repairs and improvements.
Upgrades to Woodbine’s water system include the well house, filtration system, garage, and related facilities and extension or replacement of water mains.
“Recognizing the need for supplemental funding for an expanded scape of work, we reapplied to USDA, who acknowledged the importance of this project by providing this additional funding,” Pikolycky said. “We wish to thank USDA for once again supporting Woodbine’s initiatives and look forward to a possible Fall start of construction.”
The last time the water treatment plant had any major capital upgrades was in the 1980s. According to a press release, water quality in Woodbine has been “well within satisfactory limits as determined by New Jersey DEP and US-EPA.”
