This time and next, our columnist takes us on a tour of Millville restaurants and bars.
This week I will be highlighting some of the food businesses in the Glasstown Arts District. Shopping and dining locally have a great impact on the lives of the owners, employees, community members and visitors to our area.
Recently, Bogart’s Bookstore & Café was sold to a new owner and operator, Richard Ford. He is a retired chef and has created a new menu for the café. Daily specials and regular menu of breakfast items, sandwiches, soups and salads are delicious along with a full beverage bar. The shop and café are open seven days a week. Trivia is held every Thursday evening from 6:30 to 9. Friday evening hosts live music from 7 to 9. Don’t forget the bookstore that includes trade-ins for gently used books, new publications and local authors. Bogart’s is located at 103 N. High Street, Millville.
In December 2017, the Arts Café opened at the corner of High and Mulberry Streets under the ownership of Manny and Angela Kanos. After completing a totally renovated building project, the café opened featuring fresh-baked bagels, deli meats and cheese and a wide variety of sandwiches and salads to eat in or take out. You can enjoy beverage specialties like fresh lemonade and smoothies.
The arts district is known for its fine dining, and Winfield’s Restaurant, 106 N. High Street, stands out. Located in one of the first renovated buildings in the downtown—it was formerly a Woolworth 5 & 10 cent store—the restaurant shows off the original brick and underpinnings of the early 20th century store. Enjoy the extensive menu and evening specials that are offered. The intimate bar is popular and carries fine wines and spirits. Winfield’s is open six evenings a week. Reservations are suggested.
Andrea Trattoria Italiana, 16 N. High Street, is known for its excellent Italian cuisine. The restaurant relocated to the arts district after several years on the Route 40 corridor. The friendly and warm atmosphere entices you with traditional Italian fare. Delicious items are added to a daily array of specials that will tempt you to try something new. It is open for lunch and dinner excluding Mondays (and Tuesdays in the summer). You are invited to BYOB wine or beer to pair with your menu selections.
The Old Oar House Irish Pub, 123 N. High Street, was the first pub/restaurant to refurbish a building and open on High Street in the late 1990s. The bar features dozens of drafts and a wide variety of whiskeys along with traditional favorites. The Oar House features lunch and daily specials, happy hour and a full dinner menu including specials. The Irish-themed bar and grill offers American fare, karaoke, live bands and an outdoor beer garden.
El Guacamole Restaurant, 110 N. High Street, has been a popular lunch and dinner spot since it first opened in 2015. Known and named for its table-side preparation of its “guacamole” appetizer, the restaurant features traditional Mexican cuisine and décor. It is open six days a week excluding Tuesdays. You can bring your own wine or beer to savor with your selections. Reservations are needed for Friday and Saturday evenings.
Bojo’s Ale House, 22 N. High, has been a favorite for their bar, food service and live bands on Friday nights since 2012. Happy hour is held daily from 4 to 6 p.m. and a late-night happy hour, 9 to 11, from Sunday to Thursday. Some of the area’s most popular bands are scheduled there.
