Washington Township Police and Fire Departments to Face Off for ‘Battle of the Badges’ Rematch

SEWELL, N.J. – Members of the Washington Township Police and Fire departments will compete to see who can recruit the most eligible community blood donors during a rematch of their American Red Cross Battle of the Badges blood drive competition on Tuesday, May 7.

Battle of the Badges is a friendly competition that helps the Red Cross meet patient and hospital demand for blood. Approximately 150 donors are expected to attend and cast their votes for team fire or team police. The winner of the competition will earn bragging rights and a traveling trophy.

Last year’s drive collected 167 pints of blood, ranking it the second-largest Battle of the Badges blood drive in the country behind only Philadelphia. The Police department narrowly defeated the Fire department by recruiting the most donors; however, the real winners were the approximately 500 patients who benefitted from the blood collected.

Representatives from the Washington Township mayor’s office, police and fire departments will be present at the drive throughout the day.
