As summer begins to give way to cooler weather and students return to classes, communities throughout South Jersey are preparing for fall festivals in September and October. From Gloucester County to Ocean County and Camden County, these events bring communities together with local vendors, artists, food, and family-friendly activities such as bounce houses and face painting.
Several festivals are scheduled throughout the region in the coming weeks. The Blackwood Pumpkin Festival will take place Oct. 4 in downtown Blackwood, while the Cherry Hill Harvest Festival is scheduled for Oct. 18 at Croft Farm.
In Hammonton, a fall festival hosted by AP Events and Marketing LLC will take place Oct. 3 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at White Horse Winery, 106 Hall Street. According to AP Events and Marketing, the free event will feature local vendors, food trucks, live music, outdoor games and other fall activities.
Ariella Purdy, one of the organizers of the Hammonton Fall Festival and a founder of AP Events and Marketing LLC, spoke about the work involved in organizing the festival and the experience of seeing the community participate. Purdy said the festival is returning for its second year and follows a spring event held by the organization.
“The best part, once the event is running, is walking around, talking to vendors face-to-face, and seeing the public enjoy something that took months of hard work,” Purdy said.
Purdy said September and October are popular months for festivals because the weather provides opportunities for people to spend time outdoors and shop for seasonal items.
“Above all, I strive to create events where small local businesses can thrive,” Purdy said.
