SOUTH JERSEY – With this year’s upcoming election just around the corner, new voters need to know how to register to vote. In the state of New Jersey, there are three ways to register with the state to cast your votes.
The first option is online registration by going to https://nj.gov/state/elections/voter-registration.shtml.
The second is filling out a mail in a ballot and sending it to your county commissioner of registration, the form can be found here: https://nj.gov/state/elections/voter-registration.shtml#vrf.
The third option is in person at an election office. Follow this site and click on your county to find out where to go to register in person: https://www.nj.gov/state/elections/vote-county-election-officials.shtml.
According to NJ.Gov, all three of these options will close as of October 15, 2024, just 21 days before Election Day on November 5 to vote in this year’s election.
In order to register, voters will need to meet a few requirements. The first is United States citizenship. Following that you will need to be at least 17 years old and will be turning 18 by Election Day on November 5. Also, you must be a resident of New Jersey and the county in which you choose to register for at least 30 days. Finally you must not be incarcerated as a result of a conviction of any indictable offense.
If you’re already registered but have recently moved or changed your name you can use this process to update your registration.
In order to find out if your voter registration is active you can go to this site https://voter.svrs.nj.gov/registration-check and type in your full name, birthdate or contact your County Commissioners office.
