CAPE MAY, N.J. — The Cape May County Board of Commissioners is reminding residents of upcoming events.
The Cape May County Division of Aging and Disability Services presents the 2023 Senior Jamboree. The theme for this year is “Western Jamboree.” This event will be held at the Avalon Community Center, 30th Street and the Beach in Avalon on Thursday, May 11. The doors open promptly at 10:00 A.M. and close at 2:00 P.M. All residents of Cape May County 60 and older are welcome to attend. A reminder that the County-run Senior Centers (Ocean City, Upper Township, North Wildwood, and Lower Cape) will be closed on that date for the Jamboree.
The Coast Guard Community Festival will be held on May 20 from 10 A.M. to 4 P.M. at the United States Coast Guard Training Center Cape May. Festival goers will get an inside look at an Active-Duty Coast Guard Base while exploring Training Center Cape May, the nation’s only boot camp for enlisted Coast Guard Recruits. While on foot and by trolley, the public will have access to view and go inside the U.S. Coast Guard Station Cape May vessels, view a Coast Guard helicopter up close and much more.
The Cape May County Board of County Commissioners will host a Memorial Day Ceremony on Monday, May 29 at 2 P.M. at the Gerald M. Thornton Veterans’ Cemetery. The public is invited to attend and pay their respects to the men and women who have given the ultimate sacrifice for the United States while serving their Country.
The Cape May County Department of Tourism will present its annual Tourism Conference on June 6 at 10:30 A.M. at the Cape May County Administration Building, located at 4 Moore Rd. in Cape May Court House. Cape May County Commissioner Director Leonard Desiderio and Tourism Director Diane Wieland will be among the speakers to discuss the final numbers from 2022 and to look ahead to the upcoming summer.
The Cape May County Division of Workforce Development offers education and training grants up to $4,000 and paid On-The-Job-Training (OJT) opportunities with local companies and businesses providing year-round employment. Education and training grants are available for in-demand jobs.
