BARNEGAT, N.J. — Big Barlow’s BBQ & Catering, a popular restaurant located on the Jersey Shore, closed its doors on August 21. The small business, which was located on Main St. in Barnegat, cited staffing and financial concerns as two of its main reasons for closing its operations. It shut down on August 21.
Although the restaurant will close, Big Barlow’s will continue to offer catering services to community members in the region. It originally opened in 2018 as a food truck and operated as a brick-and-mortar business after that.
“Due to the influx in meat prices and shortages on staff we have no control over this,” the restaurant said in a Facebook post announcing the news last week. “We have lost far too much money over the last 7 months to make a comeback. We will however offer catering and get back to being mobile over time! We appreciate every single one of y’all and this is not goodbye just a new beginning!”
The restaurant served a wide assortment of barbecue-related foods, including brisket, hamburgers, chicken, steak, and handcrafted sandwiches, according to its online menu. Recently, NJ.com ranked Big Barlow’s BBQ as the 23rd-best barbecue restaurant in the entire state.
“We know many people will be upset by this and we also know that some will be happy. Just know that this was our decision and we accepted it,” the restaurant continued on Facebook.
