VINELAND, N.J. — The Vineland Environmental Commission has been selected as a recipient of the 2019 Green Communities Achievement Award by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection Division of Parks and Forestry – NJ Forest Service, the NJ Community Forestry Council, and the NJ Tree Foundation. The award was presented at the 94th Annual NJ Shade Tree Federation Conference held Oct. 24 – 25 in Atlantic City.
This award recognizes those whose outstanding efforts and exemplary work have greatly contributed to the field of urban and community forestry. The Vineland Environmental Commission was recognized for working to improve the environment through wise management of tree and forest resources, and the development of a self-sustaining local urban and community forestry program.
Environmental Commission Chairperson Diane Amico was invited to be a guest speaker at the conference. Her presentation shared details of the Blackwater Branch of the Maurice River Tree Planting Project, which was recognized as one of this year’s “Municipal Accomplishment and Success Projects.” She received the award on behalf of the Commission from Carrie Sargeant, Coordinator for the NJDEP State Forest Service’s Urban and Community Forestry program.
