A.C. NAACP Announces Date for Annual ‘Freedom Fund Breakfast’

Kaleem Shabazz, President of the Atlantic City Branch of the NAACP announced the Branch’s annual Freedom Fund Breakfast to be held on Saturday, April 27th at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino at 9:00 a.m.

According to Shabazz, “our keynote speaker will be Jim Johnson, Esquire, Special Counsel to Governor Phil Murphy, and author of the report geared to return Atlantic City to self-governance.”

Honorees for this year’s breakfast will be:

  • Joseph R Jingoli, Jr., one of the principals of Hard Rock, noted for his outstanding humanitarian work in Atlantic City
  • Chief Henry White of the Atlantic City Police Department for his work to improve police-community relations and community outreach
  • Shalanda Austin, 2019 recipient of the Atlantic County Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. “Community Spirit” award winner and founder of In My C.A.R.E. Mentoring Program Inc.
  • Vinnie Kirkland, outreach manager for AtlantiCare, involved in numerous community initiatives
  • Rickey Epps Kearney, local educator and student advocate

Six scholarship recipients will be recognized at this year’s breakfast. The recipients are Atlantic City residents who are high school seniors and demonstrate the NAACP’s commitment to higher education.
